Step 1 Talk to the professionals - On receiving this information you have already taken the first step to becoming a helicopter pilot. Step 2 Go for a flight - Have your first Trial Introductory Flight (TIF) - This is a no obligation flight to introduce yourself to helicopter piloting. If you choose to continue, this time will be logged as your first training flight. counting towards your pilot Licence. Step 3 Start your training - We will tailor a training course to suit your individual needs, and you can begin your flying training straight away. Step 4 Have your Aviation Medical - In order to obtain a lPilot Licence of any type, you must first pass an Aviation Medical. It is always best to complete this early on in your flight training and it is a prerequisite for any Pilot Licence. Helicopters Pty Ltd can help you find an approved medical examiner close to you. Step 5 Receive your Student Pilot (helicopter) Licence - You will be issued with a Student Pilot Licence on completion of your Aviation Medical. A Student Pilot Licence allows you to fly solo in the local training area under supervision. Step 6 Commence the Theory Training - The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) require all licenced pilots to have passed the CASA theory examination. Helicopters Pty Ltd can guide you with your theory training. You can choose to complete your theory using a home study kit, in classroom sessions with professional ground instructors, or a combination of both. Step 7 Complete General Flying Proficiency Test (GFPT) While not an essential requirement of your training, the GFPT can be undertaken when have completed a minimum of 35 hours flying training, and completed the training syllabus requirements. A pass in the GFPT allows you to carry passengers in the local training area. This licence was once called a restricted licence. Step 8 Sit Your Private Pilot (Helicopter) Licence (PPL) A Private Pilot Licence requires a minimum of 50 hours (if you do not hold any aeroplane licence), and allows you to fly anywhere in Australia. You may know this as an Unrestricted Licence. Step 9 or/ Sit Your Commercial Pilot (Helicopter) Licence (CPL) - A Commercial Pilot Licence allows you to be employed as a professional helicopter pilot in Australia. The minimum hours required before you can undertake a commercial flight test is 105 flying hours (less if you hold an aeroplane licence). Step 10 Enjoy the privileges of your new Private Helicopter Licence - or choose the commercial path that best suits you and begin your career as a Professional Helicopter Pilot. |
